Reclaiming Power & the Burning Times

Clear a new path to freedom.

At Samhain, we remember the witches and those who died during the witch hunts. We honour those who came before, the folk customs that were lost as a result, and an entire nature-based way of life that was twisted into something wrong.

Over six generations of children witnessed their mothers and grandmothers burn in the fires of the modern era witch craze that took place from the late 1400s to the late 1700s.

For over three hundred years, if you held a belief that was either different from or challenged the Church, you had a good chance of being branded as a heretic and a witch.

Midwives, folk healers, widows, wise, elderly and single women, scientists, and those who rebelled in any way were taken from their homes, stripped in public, tortured, and forced to confess (while naming others in their confession) before they were put to death.

This was only three hundred years ago, and the effects of this time in history remain.

We still see religious fervour tearing apart our world. Public shaming is on the rise, and misogyny, racism, homophobia, and transphobia are still rampant.

But there is another way. We can come home to our bright spirits and gather together once more.

When our very gathering was a reason to be accused of witchcraft, coming together is a radical act of trust and a new path to freedom.

When we gather, you hear your voice within the bonds of shared ritual and find your inner authority again.

When we gather, you honour your ancestors and invite your oracular gifts to surface once more.

When we gather, you free your wildness and remember a time when fires meant a space to warm your heart.

At Samhain, we choose to mend the wounds of the burning times and reweave the web so that the cycles of violence and persecution can end.

We do it together. Of all the seasonal turnings, it is most important to gather at Samhain because our very gathering was once used against us.

We cross the threshold,
Open our hearts and remember ourselves

Wild and free again. Burning no more.
