“Even When Your Voice Shakes: Breaking the Silence and Owning Our Stories for Healing”
“Ritual as Action: Building Awareness, Energy, and Community to Create Change”
Emily Porth, PhD trained as a cultural anthropologist prior to completing an interdisciplinary doctorate in environmental studies. She is passionate about storytelling for social change, which is fundamentally about uniting creativity with vulnerability to craft stories that people can connect with and learn from.
Emily is particularly interested in women’s stories and finding new ways to include diverse voices in spaces where they have not historically been heard; her PhD research focused on how human and animal bodies in science museums tell visual stories about relationships within and between species, and then reimagining how those stories could be re-told from an ecofeminist perspective. Most of her writing focuses on human-animal-environment relationships and engagement, and she recently contributed to an edited volume (not yet published) about breaking the silence on sexual harassment and assault.
Emily began practicing Paganism in 2000 and has been studying Druidry since 2010. She established and currently facilitates Rowan & Thorn, a non-hierarchical Druid grove based in Hampshire, UK, which was founded on the idea that “we are all teachers and all learners”.
Her pastimes include pilgrimage (the topic of her Master of Arts thesis), particularly to holy wells around the UK, cuddling cats, writing poetry, sewing, and snacking on chocolate and Marmite (and sometimes Marmite-flavoured chocolate). Twitter: @efporth
“Soul Healing Meditation”
Bindi Shah’s journey to her soul offerings started in 2001 with a visit to an Ayurveda retreat in India. After discovering how good it felt to receive deep natural health-care and what a difference this made to her life, she embarked on a course in India to learn more of this ancient art. The year-long study in India included theory from the ancient scriptures, learning the poetic language of Sanskrit, vedic-astrology, yoga, meditation and herbs. It was an amazing experience and on returning to London, she set up her business helping people with the knowledge she had gained.
While treating people for various conditions, Bindi realized that the key to a lot of physical problems lay in emotional issues. She started meditating more herself and teaching more of this ancient practice as a technique for healing.
Healing herself from a past life trauma led to the development of the Soul Healing Meditation. In this meditation the person directly connects with their inner self and essence, the soul. The insights received from this connection help the person heal on a deeper spiritual level.
Bindi has wonderful soul offerings in her online school and is writing her first book based on life coaching techniques which have helped her and her clients. Website: www.bindishah.com
Live Session: “The Power of Story”
Omkari, a speaker, writer, and coach, began her professional life as an actor, work that perfectly suited her fascination with story. For over 20 years she explored stories of characters who, while fictional, spoke to universal human truths. In the middle she decided to take a break and explore other aspects of life. Moving into a meditation ashram she spent three years diving into understanding life, herself, and ways to live in our complicated world with grace and ease.
After leaving the ashram she returned to the world of acting. Eventually, feeling constrained by fictional roles she moved into working with politicians and entrepreneurs helping them craft and refine their message, the story that they wanted to share.
Now she speaks about the urgency of bringing the stories of women into the light. Stories that are needed to redress the balance of the world. Omkari says, “Women are half the world, yet our stories are too often unshared, unheard, or dismissed. But the world needs our stories. When we make choices with only half the information there is no way to make good choices. To make good decisions we need to hear and honor the stories of women.”
Inspiring women to speak their stories into the world is her passion and her deepest joy.
A native of Manhattan she now lives in Savannah, GA, a city that loves it stories. Keep up with her at omkariwilliams.com
